Why am I too afraid ? will martial art help me ?

I used to be a very confident boy and have a character of leader; now I am shy, reserved . I have tried to figure out what's wrong I even ended in astrology even there i can't explain ( I am sun/Aries, rising sign/leo, chinese sign/tiger by the way fire tiger i would have understood if it was water tiger. Anyway I have to get my fire back, my warrior spirit. can you believe it I am even scared of punching someone.

Why am I too afraid ? will martial art help me ?
I am answering from an 'Astrological' perspective because I love the martial arts answers you have already been given and agree that it must be a fabulous way forward for you.

But to add a little something to try and help, perhaps you are scared of failure and for you failing = not being absolute best. So even a close second is no good for you and not bothering to try is better.

Maybe you are 'projecting' your power and are scared of hurting people too. I never push Astrology onto someone but you have obviously looked at this so are open to it. A more in depth look at your whole chart may help to pinpoint where the fear is coming from. Perhaps it's just a passing phase and astrology could help you pin point that too.

Well, good luck - I hope you get your fire back!
Reply:for the fear part... it might have been triggered by a traumatic experience you had... on the martial arts??? i doubt that... martial arts teaches discipline... its not some magical technique that would take away your fear of something... best advice I could give you, JUST GO FOR IT. whatever it is...
Reply:"I doubt the martial arts teaches discipline" This might be one of the most inaccurate statements I have ever read on this site. That is probally the most important thing that martial arts strives to teach you. That is the whole basis of martial arts, discipline. Martial arts definitely builds confidence and I think would help you tremendously. I would recommend a mixed martial arts dojo. A place that teaches kickboxing, submission wrestling, and brazilian ju-jitsu. Do some research before you sign up, some of the MMA (mixed martial arts) places out there focus more on getting people to compete in MMA fights and others focus on just teaching you and letting you decide where you want to take it. The latter is the type of place that I think would suit you best. A good place to start is with an internet search in your city or surrounding citys then go check out the place in person and talk to the people there and get a feel for them. Most places will let give you a free day of training. Good luck.
Reply:the worst thing that can happen i think is to allow freddy fear to no longer be your ally rather than now rule you. fear is normal and it keeps you on your toes and edge. Esp in a match.

use fear as a freind, remember the other person is just as scared as you even if they do not show it, so know this and use it as your friend not your enemy. Easier said than done but its as simple as that. you Choose to either be afraid or say yes i am afraid but i am not alone and i will not let it rule me, I rule it.

good luck.
Reply:You're afraid because you're decent. You're afraid because you're not violent. There are many aspect that you can be confident of such as in education, work performance but not in fight. So, don't confuse yourself with the kind of confident you have. Don't ever become violent. It is immoral to be violent. So, don't be afraid, I will not harm you.

"You will not troubles others unless trouble troubles you."
Reply:Don't let fortune telling run your life. Traditional martial training can help you. But, stop looking for excuses, and take control.
Reply:I think Chinese Astrology and Chinese Martial Arts may not be the most suitable for you at this moment. The Taoist philosophy can be great at the higher levels, but at your level, you need to look for some martial art with more discipline.

Chinese MA use to be disciplined in the old days, with the strong monk/monastic nature of the Shaolin temples. Today, it is the nature of Chinese MA teachers to be very soft on their students. It might be against your Chinese upbringing, but you might have to go into something like karate to find the fire you are looking for.

In my karate organization, we have 3-5 day retreats called special training, where you wake up at 5 in the morning and do brutal training like 90 minute horse stances. It is only through these types of disciplined exercises will you be able to correct what you feel is a current mental block. Good luck.
Reply:Yes. MA is a great way to build self confidence.
Reply:Leave signs to those who study them, be the best person you can be. Sometimes people go through phases, maybe your exuberance will return. Martial arts can only help you to be at peace with yourself, therefore more confident in what you do.
