Do you involve martial arts with religion?
Interesting question:

No, I do not personally mix religion with anything else. I do see a lot of cultists type of teachers out there which is why I found this question interesting.

Even in Qi Gong there is no reason to really involve religion in my opinion and experience. However, it is very hard to find a teacher of this art who is not going to try to completely control everything you do. At some point I have experienced teachers wanting students to live with them, (support them) tell you what time to wake and sleep, what to eat, and even who to mate with. I don't think this has anything to do with martial arts, but I do believe that some misuse their position as a form of religion.
Reply:I don't try to mix the two. If you believe in God then you think that he'd create our physical bodies in a physcial plane. In martial arts we just study all aspects in that physcal plane (this includes "chi"). To mix God and the study of death may not be what he had in mind when he allowed us to concieve ideas as complicated as martail arts, but then again what do I know?
Reply:Short answer. no.

I'm Jewish, but I do not mix religion with Martial Arts. While both talk about our spirits %26amp; spirtituality, the word is used differently. In MA, Spirit means something close to willpower, controlling your mind. In religion, spirit is used to describe our relationship with God. Same word, different meanings.
Reply:eye for an eye is the Muslim way....I really believe that, sometimes if you were a salesperson, it would be an eye for two eyes...but anyhows, Im not a Muslim, but if I were to mix martial arts with religion, I would happily convert to Islam.
Reply:Me I dont mix it with religion, but I always ask God to help me have more will to train and to help me win my fights and I thank him when im done training.

Thats about it...and btw...what did eddie say?
Reply:I do not. Martial arts are one thing, matters of faith are another for me.
Reply:My religion doesn't take a side. So it's worthless to mix them.

I lose respect for anyone who mix martial arts and religion. There's no point in it.

Btw Yupachagee, are you rich?
Reply:I would like to think that my believes will help me in my martial arts but I keep them seperate. I am not christan and my believes say An it harm none. That is the basic rule. If everyone followed that one rule, who needs more. Anyway I firmly believe that if you are in a fight, I mean all else fails and you actually fight. Defend yourself to the best of your ability, no matter the outcome. If it gets to a fight consider that your life is in danger, because it is. As well I believe that it is the other person who decides how far the injury will go. They can quit at any time. They would have to start the fight so they will have to end it, by giving up (best for me). I am not religious because religion is strict and unbending, I am more spiritual, flexable like the willow. Religion is like an oak, hard and breakable when bent to far. Be kind to all things, until it is time not to.
Reply:certainly.
